6th Grade Students Test Physical Properties of Elements

October 28, 2016

The 6th grade students got to see first hand just how several elements react to electricity and magnetism 2 weeks ago. The lab consisted of 6 different types of elements being tested for their physical properties. Mr. Solis, who has been teaching 6th grade for 5 years, explained what the lab was all about.

“I love this lab because the students get to see first hand how the elements work in different situations. Some elements are shiny and others are dull. Some are attracted to magnets and can have electricity run through them while others seem to just sit there and do nothing. I enjoy seeing the students responses when they see something they were not expecting.”

Mr Quintero added, “We use hand signals with the students when we’re talking about physical properties of elements. The students enjoy getting up off their seat and memorizing the different movements. Once we do the lab they get to match up what they learned with real life, tangible objects. It’s a great way to show them proof that what they are learning is true.”

The best truth the 6th grade students learned is that Science is awesome!
