It was a game filled with big plays and even bigger mistakes. The last time the 8th graders of Kingsborough and Terrell Wells would face off in a football game against each other and they made it a fight to the finish.
The first quarter was a defensive battle with neither team moving the ball. It wasn’t until 26 seconds left in the 1st quarter that a game changing play took place. As Kingsborough was driving, the Trojans intercepted a pass to what seemed like an open Knight receiver.
When the 2nd quarter began, the Trojans used the momentum from their defense, to score a touchdown on their very first play. They converted the 2-point conversion and had the first lead of the game 8-0.
The Knights had an interception of their own with 1:20 to go before the half to give them a chance to tie the game. They drove the ball from midfield to the Trojan’s 7-yard line. With 3 seconds to go, they were intercepted to stop the drive.
Terrell wells received the ball in the 2nd half. After two first downs, the Trojans had the ball at midfield. The Trojans quarterback then threw a 50 yard pass for a touchdown. The Trojans failed to convert the 2-point conversation but the damage was done. Trojans 14 Knights 0.
The Knights did not quit though. On the ensuing kick off the Knights ran it back 40 yards to Trojan territory. On 4th and 3 and a big play needed the Knights running back broke off to the outside and broke through several tackles for a 30-yard touchdown run. The Knights failed to convert the 2-point conversion.
After a punt by the Trojans, the Knights had to start the 4th quarter on their own 2-yard line. On their first play they fumbled which gave the Trojans excellent field position. The Knights defense stepped up and kept the Trojans from getting into the end zone.
With 2 minute to go the Knights were driving and their hopes of forcing overtime were still alive. They managed to get the ball 17 yards away but some dropped passes sealed their fate. The final score was 14-6 with Kingsborough coming up short. The Knights played hard and finished their season by leaving it all out on the field.
